The formal essays will allow you to address a range of topics you're interested in while honing your ability to express yourself in writing. Each of the formal essays will include component activities -- including peer review and revision workshops -- that will contribute to the point values indicated above. Each of the essays will also include a reflection component.
The revision portfolio will be the final graded assignment for this course and as such should represent a collection of your best work. It, too, will include multiple components, including an error log, self-evaluative essay, revision samples, and peer review reflection. **See additional component videos on eLearning. (coming soon)
In lieu of a fourth essay, I'm assigning a battery of weekly writing topics that will be completed throughout the semester and posted on the Google Drive. We will use these weekly posts to generate course discussion, both about your responses to the readings and to your own attempts at creating narrative of place.
As detailed in the course policies, participation is an integral part of this course. Active participation will also improve your ability to complete each of the assignments above.
I've added two required meetings for the conclusion of the spring 2020 semester, both of which should be scheduled via Calendly. Whether completed via Skype or over the phone, these meetings will allow us to check in to make sure you're on pace for the remainder of the term.
